Lawn Bowls is not just a pass time or a senior citizens club. It is a fast paced, fun filled game of skill, strategy and stamina.

Did you know that more young people are signing up to play bowls than ever before? So come on down on a Wednesday night for some fun with great food, drinks and a friendly atmosphere... What are you waiting for?

Bargara Bowls Club is a great place for beginners and seasoned players to come along for a fun outing playing Bare Foot Bowls. With excellent entertainment, bar access and fabulous meals available, Barefoot Bowls has never been better!

Tips For Bowls Beginners

  • The large black ball is a bowl.
  • The small white ball is called the jack.
  • The aim of the game is to get your bowl as close to the jack as possible.
  • Bowls are weighted so that they don’t roll in a straight line, but in a curve.
  • Each bowl has a small and large icon on each side. Always keep the small icon on the inside of your delivery.
  • You will play on a green which is divided into rinks.
  • There is a ditch on the outside of the green to catch bowls that are delivered too long.
  • You bowl from one end of the green to the other, usually standing on a mat.
  • You bowl from alternate ends, changing at the end of each set of points. Hence each section of play is called an"End".

Rules For Social Bowls

  • Maximum group of 8 per rink.
  • Barefoot, socks only or flat, rubber soled shoes are ok.
  • Children but must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times (no running or playing on the greens).
  • Footwear must be worn at all times whilst in the clubhouse.
  • No Food or Drinks allowed on the green. Food and drinks are allowed on the bank only. This helps with the safety of others and helps keep the greens in good condition.
  • No running, jumping or any behavior that is not in the correct manner of the game of bowls or that may harm others, the bowls or the greens.

The coach or co-ordinator for the day will show you how to correctly deliver a bowl if needed - simply ask for assistance.
